Writer's boon at Boonah
There is something very special about being invited to an inaugural writers festival. What makes it even more magical is that said festival is in the beautiful regional town of Boonah surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Scenic Rim, southeast Queensland.
It was a privilege to present adult workshops on the Saturday (following the previous day's workshops with Year 11s at Boonah State High) and to be a guest at the inaugural Boonah Writers Festival literary dinner that night. Nick Earls delighted us all with his hilarious anecdotes of life on the celebrity road, while we dined on a delicious three-course meal.
I really feel like I got to know the place and its people, with students even saying hello on the street and in the supermarket. I even made friends with a writing group who had travelled over from Macleay Island.
